One of the recent trends among large employers is to put money into a Health Reimbursement Arrangement that their retirees can then use to purchase a Medicare Supplement or Medicare Advantage Plan. What might surprise some agents, though, is that employers can actually help their ACTIVE employees with their Medicare expenses as well. In a 2015 notice, the IRS confirmed that small employers with fewer than 20 employees may be able to pay the Medicare premiums for their Medicare-eligible workers, which could save the company thousands of dollars per year. Bigger employers, unfortunately, don’t seem to have the same option. In this course, we’ll introduce the concept of Medicare Premium Reimbursement Arrangements and discuss which clients may benefit from this creative funding solution.
