Course Overview

As part of their day to day jobs, Medicare-related insurance salespeople often come into contact with people who are in need of available community services but don’t know how or where to get help. Agents can provide resources to people in this situation, and those resources can be something as simple as educating an individual about Extra Help or Medicaid benefits that can coordinate with Medicare or could mean notifying the proper authorities when there is suspicion of fraud, waste, abuse, neglect or harm being done to a Medicare beneficiary. No, providing this type of information to our prospective clients won’t pay a commission, but it is part of our ethical obligation as insurance agents.

This course reviews some of the statistics about our local senior population and provides agents with information on when it is appropriate to assist a senior citizen in need by referring them to local programs and charities that can help them. We’ll also discuss how to spot a problem and when it is NOT appropriate (or ethical) to make a Medicare-related sale.
